FRONT OF HOUSE & SALES MANAGER

Supervises Front of House and Box Office Team

POSITION OVERVIEW
We seek an enthusiastic and seasoned Front of House & Sales Manager with a passion for theatre to lead our customer-facing operations, drive sales initiatives, and ensure a seamless experience for our patrons. This pivotal role encompasses overseeing the Box Office, managing the bar and revenue streams, supervising bartenders and ushers, and reporting directly to the Director of Marketing and Audience Experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Front of House and Box Office Management:

  • Supervise daily front-of-house and Box Office operations, ensuring a harmonious integration between the two.
  • Manage the Box Office Coordinator, overseeing ticket sales, customer interactions, and inquiries.
  • Drive group sales initiatives, collaborating with marketing teams to attract and accommodate larger audiences.

Sales Leadership:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive sales strategies for ticket and group sales, as well as revenue from the bar.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Director of Marketing to execute targeted promotional campaigns for theatrical productions and special events.
  • Analyze ticket sales and bar revenue trends, adjusting strategies to optimize attendance and financial outcomes.

Team Collaboration:

  • Foster collaboration among front-of-house, sales, and marketing teams, ensuring a unified approach to enhance the overall audience experience.
  • Coordinate with production, artistic teams, and volunteers to align efforts with the unique aspects of each theatrical production.

Financial Management:

  • Ensure accurate financial transactions at the Box Office and bar, maintaining secure and efficient systems.
  • Implement cost-effective measures while maintaining high-quality theatre and bar experiences.

Personnel Management:

  • Supervise bartenders, ushers, and volunteers, ensuring a well-coordinated, customer-focused team.
  • Provide training and support to enhance team performance in delivering exceptional service.

Event and Rentals Coordination:

  • Plan and execute events that complement theatrical productions, engaging the audience and optimizing bar revenue.
  • Collaborate with event organizers to seamlessly integrate special occasions within the theatre environment.
  • Coordinate and collaborate on Development events with the Stewardship and Communications Manager.
  • Oversee the scheduling and coordination of facility rentals. Provide excellent customer service to clients renting facilities. Draft, review, and execute rental agreements and contracts. Handle rental inquiries, bookings, and reservations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in front-of-house management, Box Office operations, sales leadership, and bar management, preferably within the theatre or performing arts industry.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an understanding of the unique dynamics of theatre audiences.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, including bartenders, ushers, and volunteers.
  • Proficient in using ticketing systems, sales analytics tools, and bar management software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts, Business, or a related experience is preferred.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Resident Scenic Designer

Supervises Assistant Technical Director, Costume Shop Manager, Sound Engineer, and Contracted Designers

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Producing Artistic Director, the Technical Director and Resident Scenic Designer is responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of productions at The Public Theater. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong technical theater background who can manage the build and technical execution of our diverse range of performances.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Collaborate with the Producing Artistic Director and other production team members to plan and execute technical aspects of each production.
  • Oversees and manages the Assistant Technical Director, providing guidance and support in their responsibilities related to overhire management, budgeting, procurement, safety, communication, quality control, shop improvements, and daily operations.
  • Manage all production timelines, schedules, and budgets related to technical elements.
  • Oversee the design and construction of sets, ensuring they align with artistic vision and safety standards.
  • Coordinate the work of scenic designers, carpenters, and other technical staff.
  • Supervise the setup and operation of lighting and sound equipment during performances.
  • Collaborate with lighting and sound designers to achieve desired effects.
  • Ensure the safe operation of rigging systems and equipment.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and provide training to technical staff.
  • Hire and manage technical crew members, including stagehands and technicians.
  • Coordinate crew schedules and assignments.
  • Develop and manage production budgets in collaboration with the Producing Artistic Director.
  • Monitor and control expenses related to technical aspects of productions.
  • Maintain an inventory of technical equipment and supplies.
  • Oversee theatrical equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Provide technical support during rehearsals and performances.
  • Attend technical rehearsals and builds
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols, including fire safety and building codes.
  • Collaborate with directors, designers, and other production team members to achieve the artistic vision of each production.
  • Foster a collaborative and creative working environment.
  • Design scenery for a negotiated number of productions per season.
  • Ensures on-site presence throughout Tech Weeks, irrespective of design duties, to oversee and coordinate technical operations, troubleshoot challenges, and provide hands-on support for the seamless execution of productions.
  • Alternates on-call responsibilities with the Assistant Technical Director during productions to troubleshoot and address issues reported in performance reports, ensuring timely resolution and maintaining the seamless execution of technical aspects.
  • Executes additional related duties as required, collaborating to ensure all tasks reflect the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience as a Technical Director in a theater or performing arts setting.
  • 4-6 years of experience as a Technical Director or effectively managing a large team
  • Proficient in technical drafting software (AutoCAD, Vectorworks) and/or other relevant design tools.
  • Strong knowledge of technical theater equipment and rigging systems.
  • Certifications in rigging, safety, or technical theater may be advantageous.
  • Experience assisting in budgeting, scheduling, and project management for theatrical productions.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to industry standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

This role relies on the following physical requirements: 

  • Capability to repeatedly lift, push, pull, or handle items up to 75 lbs, independently or with assistance.
  • Comfortable operating on ladders, mechanical lifts, and elevated areas.
  • Comfortable working within confined spaces.
  • Potential need to work in environments lacking climate control, such as shop floors, load-ins, and during truck load/unload.
